I just lost the first typing of this post - Rewrite!
Well, I have been thinking about writing a post for days, it actually takes time to sit down and do it!
So here is the update - Out residential kitchen needed to be completely ripped out and upgraded to commercial specs, per order of the Health Code folks, to be able to scoop Ice Cream this summer, that news came on June 1st, after a good weekend scooping! This project CONSUMED the entire month of June for all of us. Sandy & Kourtney painting, w/Pat * Kaleigh coming over on W/E's helping build the wall between the Gift Shop and new Kitchen. With all the rain in June, we did not get outside much anyway!
Footnote on June - We had our 1st walkout, and eye Dr & Family from GA, he stated that the "Lodge was not what he percieved from the website." He later writes on TripAdvisor.com that several teenagers where drinking on the front stoop when they arrived. Whats funny about that statement is that Kourt was in Berlin for the weekend w/friends! When they arrived it was Me, Sandy, Pat and Kal out front all of age, and it was me with the only beer in hand! Strange set of circumstances, very strange!
July was spent trying to catch up on on the lawn from all the June rains, this of course was in between the July rains, but the lawns where starting to look like hay fields! The horse & Steer couldn't even keep up it was getting so long - Good eating for them though, nice and green! Sandy loves to help me by mowing with the Deere, but that machine keeps eating belts, not sure why, but just the way our summer is going I guess. We started to put in foamboard and fiberglass insulation in the basement, our living Qtrs, to make it more effiecent for this coming winter. Looking at $5K for oil is scaring the hell out of us! But, we started scooping Ice Cream again around the 4th, so that was cool. Some folks think we are serving it out of our livingroom, sounds funny to hear, but it gets people in here to look at the inside of the lodge instead of driving by all the time - the whole point. With all the rain, we discovered a serious leaking problem in the basement, coming into the basement is several places, seemed that was all we where doing when it was raining. Digging up the front yard is now on the agenda for late summer early fall time frame, if the water table ever recedes, Maybe??? The Thunder in the Mountains event went oK, could have been better attended but the rain threatened earlier in the day. We hosted the first stop on the Poker Run, lots of folks took time to look inside the lodge (some locals) who had never been inside, lots of positive comments - Feels good hearing it from other people, and makes the sweat worth it!
So here we are in August, starts out just like June/July - raining, but people are still stopping for Ice Cream even when it is raining, and they are saying they are tired of it too - Wheew thought it was me! It was raining again last week, creator you are killing us. But, what is so funny about all the rain this summer is that when we have an event up here it seems to stop long enough for the event to happen. This brings us to the Pow-Wow's forecast, the long range forecast indicates that we are heading into a better pattern and the W/E of the 23/24 is going to be nice - Whohoa! So far we have 12 or 13 vendors coming, some are still uncommited with no paperwork yet??? But, the drums are coming, storyteller, Dirigidoo (Australian), and flute player. We have had some folks stop in ask about Pow-Wow and if it was still going, so it looks like a great weekend is in front of us.
I'll go now, need to do something constructive around here while the rain is heal at bay, we may get T-Storm this afternoon/tonight! We really don't need the rain, but may get it anyway. Did I say rain again?
Til Soon Friends!
