Voter fatigue

Ok, I am calling this a roll for sure!  I was motivated to write this morning by the up coming election.  Seems to me that we have been hearing about the 08 Presidential election since the invasion of Iraq, my god be DONE already!

So, for those of you that need a reminder - Be sure to VOTE on Tuesday, I have been putting on the uniform of this countries Navy for over 20 years, please make sure it has not been for nothing.  I will retire from this obligation of service soon (Date TBD) but soon none the less, and will soon have to talk about it in past tense.

So to the point, every morning for the past 2 or 3 months we have be over run by Political ADs that run for every single one of them back to back and the press wonders why people are still undecided?  Becasue you watch 15 AD's in a 3 minute slot that all disagree with the previous AD you idiots! And now they are using $ for infomercial's to inform those of us that are almost not to be trusted with our vote, when/where  will it STOP!  I think, we as the tax payers and voters have to set a new voting date - DO NOT announce before this date, date!  Anyone else agree, maybe we can get some elected Bozo the clown to agree - Do you remeber Bozo? Lol!  Lets say 6 maybe 8 months prior and WE the tax payers provide you with ALL of the dollars that you can spend - NO raising funds!  Everyone that is claimed on the tax forms (SSN#'s) contribute a $1 who knows maybe $5, come on folks you can spare a single $1 or $5 to get out from under this sillyness.  A family of 4 pays $4 - $20 thats it - Ok!

Term limits, yes I said it, and some of you have heard me say it - No more than 2 terms in a life time!  If, you wish to continue to serve then find another seat to fill but you got the T-Shirt for that one your DONE!   It was good enough for the Presidents seat (After FDR) why can't we send some of these HOMESTEADERS home.  If, I don't go home from the Navy on time, they WILL send me home, should work the same for ALL federal employee's I think.  It has to get cleaner, I can't see it being any dirtier can you?

I have seen some of the "reviews" that some of you have posted on the various sites that do that sort of thing and all of you have been very candid about your visit(s) with us, be sure that we always look to our guests and frineds for their feedback.  We do not discourage you from sharing your thoughts on how we can improve either, we need to hear what went wrong or not just right too!

So, if we need to know something be sure to bring it up, we will try harder next time!

*** Snow, yes I said snow

Well, I may be on a roll here, it may not last but a roll none the less!

Last-night we received about a 1/2" of snow and as I sit here looking out the window it has started to lightly snow again.  I don't think this will amount to much today, and it is warming up tomorrow and Sat, but this is WAY early.  I do not and will not get optimistic about this though, did that 2 years ago in the middle of moose week and the snow flopped.

However, with the white stuff back on the ground it does get the gears spinning and I am thinking this may be another good season for Dog Sledding in Northern New England and more specifically the Great North Woods of New Hampshire.  This can only be good for us as a business, we do really well with them and we are working with 2 or 3 different teams this year.  Last year taught us a couple hard lessons and its not real appropriate to write all of that here, but trust me we have grown and some things need to be experienced before we learn from it - Enough said!

We posted some of te Dog Sledding tours and rides details on visitnh.gov yesterday and it should go live be weeks end.  If, your entertaining the idea of a gift or special family event be sure to book early (and often - Lol) to ensure a seat.  The season for dog sledding is short and seats on the sleds are limited, hey does that sound like the story about crude oil this past summer?  Wish we were making that kind of profit, just think what this place would look like if I could spend that kind of money developing it?  No, I just want enough to live well, take care of the kids and Sandy and be happy. Having really cool people around every weekend is enough sometimes!

Anyway, need to get some of the house cleaned up before I have to depart for drill weekend and Sandy shows back up for the weekend and kills me for a dirty house!

Moose are wild

Well, I know and thats all I am saying about that! 

Last Friday 10/17 started our 4th moose hunt week, started back in June really but we had 4 tags staying with us for the week; 3 (ES) either sex and 1 (AO) antlerless only.  We always get excited about the whole thing and I have to take the week off, just so I can be around for the guys and sometimes gals.  Friday evening was full of anticipation and a little bit of stress, you can feel it when they talk to you; worried that something going to go wrong I think mostly.  We had a boat loadd of food for dinner everyone brought something to the table - Just really cool when that happens but I come from a large and extended family so it works for me.

Sat am, everyone of the guys and their sub's where out the door by 5:30 and I started to prepare the beef stew for the evening meal.  In fact I had it one the stove by 7 and it was cooked by 1pm and I ate some piping hot - Damned I am good cook! lol

I was actually interrupted by the first "moose down" call by JD (Protect the innocent) just after 1 and boy was he in deep, they hit him but he kept going laid down a couple times but kept getting up and moving further into the White Mtn National Forest.  Where you can't use anything thing to get them out - Some rules need changing // Honestly, its a 1k lbs animal folks, how do you expect us to harvest it?  Thats what the hunt is all about, as well as the overall health of the herd!  So, JD asks me if I "have any miracles for getting him out?"  Sorry JD, but we are going to have to Qtr him, I could see his disappointment, just to damn far it and no tools to use!  So, he comes out (710lbs est. bull) about 6 hours later and in 9 pieces, and we are beaten senseless.  But the NH F&G biologist is ecstatic about our tale and wants to have the PR folks @ F&G call and talk w/him - COOL, he's my hunter!

Sat. evening another awesome meal, good thing I started it early!  Sun am, we start at the same time, less two hunting and drinking coffee so I wasn't overwhelmed at the pot.  Around 10 or 11 not sure, we get another "moose down" call (660lbs Bull), and its M & C and I know from riding around with them on Fri exactly where they are located.  Decent drag out on my new best friend the barrel sled, made especially for moose lol, I need to get me one of these, makes my life easier during the week! And. whats best is that M has already scouted the way out and its downhill - Sweet!  Pictures, beer and steaks follow and good spirits for most.  The cow (750lbs) was taken while we where gone for M & C and I never got to see it, that sucks no pictures!

Mon am JD & M as well as M&C all bail out for south and to show off their prizes to people who matter more than us, we are sure.  But, R & R are still in for the fight, and the 1st R's spirits are dipping a bit, he's a sseasoned hunter who has not even seen a moose yet.  We try our best to keep these guys up, but all day long hunting and getting no glimpse is tough on them. 

BUT, Tues am change's everything, they tag out on a 2.5 yr old Bull (550lbs), and good looking boy and will be good meat in the freezer for this winter - Here's to keeping your chin up boys!

So, with all of that, we have closed 17 out off 18 tags in the 4 moose hunts we have been open, better than the states averages and everyone has told me this year was the toughest hunt they can recall - Strange for sure from start to finish, from where I sit anyway // Gas prices and Presidential election year, broken financial system and a wet summer - Why not have a tough moose hunt?

Can't wait to start seeing dogs around here again!
